An MSM Degree Program with Hands-on, Interactive Projects

Our fast-paced management program features experiential, action-oriented learning exercises and assignments. For example, in MSM-6650, you’ll complete a strategic planning project using current, real-world data to advise a company on how it can use the data to develop and strengthen its competitive advantages. These interactive projects will help you explore, discuss and apply course-related concepts in real-world scenarios. Through these hands-on activities, you’ll develop and improve your overall management and leadership skills for careers in business, government, the military or nonprofit organizations — both in the U.S. and abroad.

Dr. Rodger Morrison

Dr. Rodger Morrison

Dr. Rodger Morrison, Associate Professor of Strategy, holds a Ph.D. in management from Auburn University. He earned an MBA, an MSHRM and a bachelor’s in resources management from TROY. He also has an undergraduate degree in avionics systems from the Air Force. Dr. Morrison has professional management experience in the military, textile and automotive manufacturing industries, and has published on technology management, strategy, research methods, equity theory and more.
Dr. John Michael Mankelwicz

Dr. John Michael Mankelwicz

Dr. John Michael Mankelwicz, Professor of Management, holds a Ph.D. in strategic management and an MBA from Temple University; an M.S. in biology from Bucknell University; and a B.A. in science from Pennsylvania State University. Before coming to TROY, he worked in journalism, environmental science and publishing. His research interests are in strategic leadership and decision-making, with a focus on ethics and long-run performance, sustainability, and executive behaviors and orientations.

Master of Management Concentrations

You can choose one of three concentrations in the master's in management program. No matter which one you choose, you’ll learn concepts, theories and topics related to your area of interest and how to apply them in the real world. You can choose from the following:
Master’s in Management concentration: Leadership
Learn to engage and create hands-on learning opportunities for employees at all levels of your organization — or in future management jobs. You’ll develop your own leadership style by studying great leaders in history, and you’ll learn how to apply leadership concepts and models to today’s workplace environments.
Master’s in Management concentration: Project management
Prepare for project management jobs with great diversity and international options with this popular concentration. You’ll be hands-on with Microsoft Project, the most widely used project management software. You’ll create several projects, including one where you combine your background with your new project management skills. Your final course provides in-depth coverage of The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), a detailed guide of project management best practices developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

While it’s not required, you’ll be prepared to take either the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exams administered by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Master’s in Management concentration: Human resource management
Learn how to select, develop and retain the best talent to meet your organization’s goals in the highly competitive global marketplace. Through this MSM degree concentration, you’ll develop the knowledge and skills you need to advance in your organization or move into human resource manager jobs.

What is an MSM degree?
An MSM degree is a Master of Science in Management degree. Through it, you can gain knowledge and skills for management jobs and other leadership positions.
Is a master’s in management worth it?
Absolutely. With an MSM degree from TROY, you’ll build on your bachelor’s degree with business skills and in-depth knowledge in one of three concentrations: leadership, project management or Human resource management and training. With this graduate degree, you’ll have the credential you need to advance or change your career — and expand your earning potential.
Do you allow transfer credits in the management program?
A maximum of two courses (six semester hours) taken at another AACSB-accredited institution, each with a “B” grade or better, may be applied toward the degree. This is not automatic or guaranteed. TROY’s Free in 48 transfer credit equivalency review will show you how many credits you can transfer to TROY — and which courses they will count towards. Visit the Transfer Students page to learn more. 

Transfer credit requests from institutions not holding AACSB accreditation will be reviewed upon submission to the appropriate business faculty or administrators, with final college approval of transfer credit being made by the Dean of the Sorrell College of Business.

When can I enter the master’s in management program?
The management program has rolling admission, so you can apply at any time and start during the first term after you’re admitted. Terms start in August, October, January and March each year. Management courses are delivered online in five, nine-week terms over the academic year.
What are the admission requirements for the MSM degree?

Is a thesis or comprehensive exam required to earn a master’s in management?
The master's in management program does not require a thesis or comprehensive exam. However, the capstone course (MSM 6650-Strategic Management) does include a final exam covering the primary topic areas from courses throughout the program.
How long does it take to complete the master’s in management program?
You must complete 10 courses (30 hours). The time it will take you to complete the management program varies depending on your schedule and how many courses you complete each term. It is possible to complete the program in one year by taking two courses per term. The typical time to completion, however, is between one and two years.
