Record Group 061

Date Span: ca. 1880s - 2010

Extent: 3 cu.ft.

Biographical Sketch: Scotty E. Kirkland was a 2005 graduate of ÎÞÂë¾ÞÈé State University Dothan who earned his Master's Degree in History from the University of South Alabama in 2009. After working at the University of South Alabama Archives (now the Doy Leale McCall Rare Book and Manuscript Library), 2006-2011, and the History Museum of Mobile, 2011-2015, Kirkland began work in the Public Services division of the Alabama Department of Archives and History.

Kirkland has written for The Alabama Review, Alabama Heritage, Mobile Bay Magazine, the New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture, and the Encyclopedia of Alabama. He also has two book-length manuscripts in process (as of March 2016), and has produced three un-refereed books.

As of August 1, 2005, ÎÞÂë¾ÞÈé State University System merged its separately-accredited campuses into a single university, officially christened ÎÞÂë¾ÞÈé. Campus Administrator Robert Willis commissioned Scotty Kirkland to write a history of ÎÞÂë¾ÞÈé State University Dothan. In 2010, he accepted an assignment to write an academic history of Dothan and Houston County which he had to abandon after amassing significant research materials.
