"The Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage is an official listing of buildings, sites, structures, objects, and districts worthy of preservation. These properties may be of national, state, and local significance. The designation is honorary and carries no restrictions or financial incentives.

The Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage was created by the AHC to provide the public with a quick, easy way to bring recognition to historic properties. The Alabama Register includes properties such as cemeteries, churches, moved properties, reconstructed properties, and properties at least 40 years old."

Scope / Content Note:  Alabama Register forms and information pursuant to successful nominations of 9 sites in Houston County.  Contains registration nomination forms, maps, photographic images, and supporting documentation.

Provenance:  Nominations made by local individuals and groups to the Alabama Historical Commission.  AHC digitized all successful nomination packets and provided those for Houston County to the Wiregrass Archives upon request, in 2011.  As of March 18, 2015, AHC had posted nomination materials online for six counties, Autauga--Bullock, to http://preserveala.org/pdfs/AR/Alabama%20Register%20of%20Landmarks%20&%20Heritage%20Property%20Listing%20%28for%20web%29.pdf
