Consider Your Options

Within TROY’s exercise science master’s program, you’ll have the option to choose between a thesis or non-thesis route. By pursuing the thesis route, you will be tasked with completing an in-depth research-based project that will lead you toward a future doctoral/professional program. By choosing to pursue your master’s through a non-thesis route, you will have the opportunity to complete an internship where you will work within your area of career interest.

Graduate Assistantship Opportunities

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion also offers competitive graduate assistantship (GA) slots for students enrolled in its exercise science graduate program. GA opportunities include teaching, research and laboratory assistantships. Preference for graduate assistantships will be given to those who wish to further their education by pursuing a terminal degree (doctorate/ professional) upon completing the kinesiology master’s degree.

Your training will also prepare you to sit for certification examinations offered through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and other organizations in the related fields of health and fitness, clinical exercise testing and strength and conditioning.

Michael S. Green, Ph.D.

Michael S. Green, Ph.D.

Dr. Michael Green received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Sport and Fitness Management from ÎÞÂë¾ÞÈé State University in 2000 and 2002, respectively, and earned his doctorate in Sport Science from Georgia State University in 2008. Dr. Green began working with the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion in 2008, and teaches and conducts research in the area of Exercise Science. He also serves as the Exercise Science Program Coordinator. A native of Great Britain, Green came to the United States to combine his athletic and academic aspirations. He earned 9 conference titles, set the ÎÞÂë¾ÞÈé record for 3,000 meters, and became the first member of the ÎÞÂë¾ÞÈé University cross country team to receive the Academic All-American honor (1998), and enjoyed a successful post-collegiate career as a marathon runner.
Teresa Johnson, Ph.D.

Teresa Johnson, Ph.D.

Dr. Teresa Johnson is a Registered Dietitian with over 30 years of clinical practice and teaching experience. She has a BS in Dietetics from the University of Montevallo, a master’s in nutrition from Auburn University and a Doctorate in Clinical nutrition from Rutgers University. Her current clinical practice is outpatient pediatric clinics for Children’s Rehabilitation Services and pool dietitian for Encompass Health. She teaches Human Nutrition, Nutrition Assessment, Nutrition for the Lifecycle, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Introduction to Food Science, Community Nutrition, and Sports Nutrition and Metabolism.
Tyler D. Martin, Ph.D.

Tyler D. Martin, Ph.D.

Dr. Tyler Martin earned a Ph.D. in Human Performance with an Exercise Physiology Emphasis from The University of Southern Mississippi (USM), a M.S. in Human Performance with an Exercise Science Emphasis from USM, and a B.S. in the field of Physical Education with an emphasis in Fitness Management from Mississippi State University. In addition, he holds the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Prior to beginning his collegiate career, the Minnesota Twins selected Ty in the 1996 MLB Draft. He was a scholar-athlete in baseball at the University of Florida (1997-1998) and Mississippi State University (1999-2000). While a Gator, he competed in the 1998 College World Series. Following his career at Mississippi State University, the Texas Rangers selected and signed Ty in the 2000 MLB Draft and in July 2002, Martin was awarded Minor League Player of the Month from Topps.
James Grant Mouser, Ph.D.

James Grant Mouser, Ph.D.

Dr. J. Grant Mouser completed his Ph.D. in Health and Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Physiology from the University of Mississippi. While there he received a graduate certificate in Applied Statistics. He received his M.S. in Exercise Physiology as well as a B.S. in Health and Exercise Science from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Mouser has been heavily involved in applied physiology research examining blood flow restriction, muscle function and growth, and vascular adaptations to exercise.
