Summer High School Music and Leadership Camp

"SOUND OF THE SOUTH" SUMMER MUSIC CAMPS

The 2024 "Sound of the South" Summer Music Leadership Camp will take place on June 16-20, 2024. The camp is open to incoming 8th through 12th grade and consists of Concert Band, Drum Major, Dance, Majorette, Marching Percussion Ensemble, Concert Percussion Ensemble, and Color Guard classes.

Registration Instructions:

  1. Submit the online registration portion for your classification for the Summer Leadership/ Music Camp. ( Please see the following links below)
  2. Click the link labeled FORM in the confirmation email you will receive once you have submitted the registration; Print this pdf.
  3. Attach your student's $20 deposit fee (Cashier's Check or Money Order) to the confirmation PDF and place it in the mail at the address below.

  4. Receive a confirmation email that the deposit has been received for Camp, and your room has been reserved.
  5. Mail the final payment before May 31st to AVOID the $50 late fee.

Fees:

For band camp students staying on campus, a $20.00 deposit is required to pre-register and reserve your spot in the camp. The total cost of the camp if the total fee is received by May 31,2024 is $275.00. This includes instruction, room, t-shirt, admission to Camp Butter and Egg, and 3 meals daily. This fee increases to $325 if paid ON OR AFTER June 1, 2024.

For band camp students who will commute daily from home, fee for camp instruction, t-shirt, admission to Camp Butter and Egg, and 3 meals daily is $215.00. This fee increases to $265 If paid ON OR AFTER MAY 31, 2024.


For chaperones or directors staying on campus, the fee for a private  dorm room and three meals a day is $190.00. This fee increases to $225 if paid ON OR AFTER MAY 31, 2024.

Scholarships:

A limited number of scholarships are available to attend the "Sound of the South" Summer Music Leadership Camp. To apply for these scholarships, please click on the link below.

Class Descriptions:

Concert Band- Campers will play in a concert band throughout the week. Sectionals and masterclasses will be included. Enrollment is open to all instrumental students.

Concert Percussion Ensemble- Campers will perform with the Concert Band as well as perform in an indoor concert percussion ensemble. Enrollment is open to all percussionists.

Marching Percussion Ensemble- Campers will play in a Marching Band drumline throughout the week. Marching fundamentals will be included. Enrollment is open to all percussionists.

Majorette- Campers will focus on individual and group twirling techniques throughout the week. Marching fundamentals for twirlers will be included. Enrollment is open to all twirlers.

Color Guard- Campers will focus on individual and group techniques using a variety of color equipment. Marching fundaments for color guard will be included. Enrollment is open to all color guard students.

Dance Line- Campers will focus on individual and ensemble techniques featuring a variety of dance styles. Marching fundamentals for dancers will be included. Enrollment is open to all students interested in the dance line.

Drum Major- Campers will focus on conducting, marching fundamentals, vocal commands, and leadership techniques. Enrollment is open to all future or current drum majors.

Additional Information:

  • Students should bring loose fitting clothing that will be comfortable enough to wear outside.
  • Students staying on campus should bring everything they need to stay in a dorm room (bed sheets, pillows, toiletries, etc).
  • Students are responsible for providing their own instruments during the camp.
  • Students should bring their own folding wire music stands.
  • The School of Music will not furnish instruments other than concert percussion instruments.
  • Marching Percussion (drum line) students should bring their own instruments, sticks, and mallets. The School of Music will not provide instruments, sticks or mallets.
  • Drum Major students will need ot bring a plain white t-shirt, black shirts, and black socks.
