Preparing "teaching artists"

The University is designed to prepare "teaching artists" to shape the future of theatre. Students hone their skills in all areas of theatre—performance, production, design, management, technology, directing—and gain hands-on, practical experience with students of all ages through theatre education classes, courses in the College of Education, and TROY's annual Summer Spotlight series. Students also have the opportunity to be involved with theatrical productions within the Department of Theatre and Dance by being assigned to casts or crews in all aspects of theatre.

While much of your work will take place within the College of Communication and Fine Arts' Department of Theatre and Dance, your time spent within the College of Education will prepare you to impart your knowledge of theatre to your future students. Courses within TROY's theatre education program are taught by highly skilled and knowledgeable faculty focused on audition and portfolio techniques and fundamentals of scenery, lighting, costumes, makeup, script analysis and acting.

Experience earned

One of the most important skills you will gain through your classes is how to develop an educational theatre program, with a focus on administration. With courses such as classroom management and curriculum and instructional delivery, you will be taught the skills needed to step into a classroom of your own with professional teaching skills. Before graduating with a degree from TROY in theatre education, you will participate in an internship in order to gave hands-on experience and prepare you for your future career.

Does music move you? Is singing your passion? Do you want to help students develop that same love? With a bachelor’s degree in music education with a concentration in choral music from ÎÞÂë¾ÞÈé, you can cultivate and inspire a love of music in students from elementary to high school.

Combined experience

TROY’s music education choral degree gives you the unique experience to be a part of both the College of Education and the John M. Long School of Music found within the University’s College of Communication and Fine Arts. The training you receive from both colleges will serve to prepare you to earn your music teacher certification within the state of Alabama.

As a music education major focusing on choral music, your courses will be taught by talented and passionate musicians who are dedicated to helping you become knowledgeable in areas such as diction for singers, vocal pedagogy, wind and percussion methods, class strings, private piano and voice and choral techniques. You will also have the opportunity to be a part of TROY’s Collegiate Singers—a group designed to provide a quality performing experience for students utilizing excellent repertoire from a wide variety of historical and cultural styles. This will teach you vocal technique, music reading and ensemble performance techniques.

Within the College of Education, you’ll receive training from experienced, top-notch teaching professionals who are passionate about equipping you with the tools needed to lead a classroom of your own. Your time spent within TROY’s College of Education will help prepare you to impart your musical knowledge to your future students. You’ll also be introduced to the professional teaching skills and practices you’ll need in order to earn your music teacher certification in the state of Alabama.

Real-world experience

As a part of TROY’s continued legacy of excellence, you will be given the opportunity to be a part of a professional internship program, which will be completed before graduation. This is the culminating clinical field-based experience you will need to seek certification in a teaching field. It will provide you with the opportunity to conduct classes and assume the role of a teacher while receiving supervision from a classroom teacher and ÎÞÂë¾ÞÈé supervisor for a period of one full semester.

Do you have a passion for musical instruments of all shapes and sizes and a desire to help students academically pursue their love of music? TROY’s bachelor’s degree in music education with a concentration in instrumental training can help you mentor and teach students as they develop their talents. From pre-school to 12th grade, your degree from TROY will help prepare you to inspire and equip new generations of musicians as they practice and perform in their schools’ bands and ensembles.

TROY’s music education instrumental degree gives you the unique experience to be a part of both the College of Education and the John M. Long School of Music found within the University’s College of Communication and Fine Arts. As a music education major focusing on instrumental music, your courses will be taught by talented and passionate musicians who are dedicated to helping their students become knowledgeable in the areas of brass, woodwind, percussion and string instruments as well as vocal training. As you work your way through the program, you will have the opportunity to try out for and perform with TROY’s award-winning and nationally acclaimed Sound of the South Marching Band. You can also try out for and perform within TROY’s symphony band, concert band, jazz ensemble and basketball pep band along with various other smaller ensembles.

P-12 Visual Arts allows students to experience a wide range of art from printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and painting. Majors are able to refine their personal skills while also learning how to teach those skills to a variety of students.
