Put Theory to Work in the Real World with Built-In Teaching Experiences

As an elementary education major at TROY, you鈥檒l learn how to teach all major content areas by spending two semesters in elementary school classrooms, learning alongside mentor teachers. Through hands-on teaching experiences, such as a literacy practicum, a math/science/STEM practicum and an internship, you鈥檒l learn how to develop and execute effective lesson plans that fully engage students. 

You鈥檒l also have hands-on learning opportunities through the College of Education鈥檚 state-of-the-art . The lab will help prepare you to integrate STEAM into your future classroom curriculum. It is also used to provide STEAM camps for area children and professional development to motivate educators to implement STEAM more often in their classrooms.

Dr. Catherine C. Lott

Dr. Catherine C. Lott

Dr. Catherine 鈥淐athy鈥 Lott is a 无码巨乳 native and two-time TROY graduate. She taught for 20 years in public elementary schools and was a reading coach and an adjunct professor for seven years before joining the TROY faculty full time in 2019. She received a 2023 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for excellence of character, humanitarian service and spiritual qualities.
Dr. Timon Paleologos

Dr. Timon Paleologos

Dr. Timon Paleologos is an Associate Professor in the elementary education program. He earned Ph.D., M.Ed., and B.S. degrees from Auburn University. Dr. Paleologos has been teaching at TROY since 2005.
Dr. Shannon M. Dadd

Dr. Shannon M. Dadd

Dr. Shannon Dadd is an Assistant Professor in TROY鈥檚 Department of Teacher Education. She teaches Educational Technology, Science and STEM to all education majors. She serves as the department鈥檚 Field Experience Coordinator, connecting education majors to mentor-teachers in partnership schools. Additionally, Dr. Dadd serves as Chair on the Board of Directors for Alabama STEM Education.
Dr. Dana Evans

Dr. Dana Evans

Dr. Dana Evans completed her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction for elementary education at the University of Alabama in 2019. She has taught various grades in Title 1 elementary schools in Georgia and Alabama. Her research interests are preservice teacher literacy instruction, place-based learning, and instructional approaches in literacy education.
Brittany Smith

Brittany Smith

Brittany Smith is a lecturer in TROY鈥檚 Teacher Education Program. A TROY alumnus, she earned her undergraduate degree in collaborative/special education (grades K-6) and her master鈥檚 in instructional leadership and administration. She taught grades 3-5 for nine years and was an assistant principal at Brantley School for three years. She also worked as a reading specialist with Crenshaw County Schools for one year.
Angela Carpenter

Angela Carpenter

Angela Carpenter is a lecturer in the Department of Teacher Education for Elementary Education. Prior to coming to TROY, she taught first and sixth grades and was an elementary/secondary school principal for 17 years. She received both her bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 in elementary education at TROY.
